Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
